A thought or two about the war
There is no doubt that Iraq under
Saddam is a brutal and wicked regime. The sins are bright, bright scarlet, and
its bloodlust for the Jew /Israel is particularly revealing on a spiritual level.
At the same time, the sins of the good ol' USA are quite scarlet, as well,
as we have over the past 30 years seen fit to ....(ahem)..."legalize" the
slaughter of 45 million innocent babies. Our own "free luv" holocaust.
One of the lessons of scripture, I think, is that God in His infinite wisdom
can and does often express His wrath against wicked, sinful and lost
mankind, by withdrawing His Grace from between The Proud and The Proud,
much like a "Divine Referee" might back away from between 2 foolish boxers and
let them "have at it" for a season. His message being:
"OK, fellas. Have it your way. Maybe (?) this will help you two to
recognize that you're both "a mess"...both absolutely lost and in desperate need
of Me if you are going to survive. When you're done, take an honest look around.
Examine your hearts. And then, please turn to me, the Truth, the Life and the
only Way to salvation. Repent. Believe. Be Saved."
As terrible as war is, I know that God has a "season" for it
(Ecclesiastes 3:8). And He allows war not just to punish wickedness and
bring about justice, but also to wake up the wicked , expose
wickedness and draw the wickedly lost to Himself in brokenness and Faith.
Imbedded in the awfulness of war there is always, I think, the potential
for discovering the greatest Good of all....knowledge of a merciful God and His
finished work at Calvary....eternal life.
Let us pray that God's message might get through to millions more everywhere
after the dust settles. Let us pray that a Saddam-less Iraq will no longer be a
catalyst for genocide, torture and tyranny.....And let us also pray that
we (USA) might as a country look beyond our proud, nationalism/patriotism and
examine our hearts. For while our sins are not the same as Iraq's, they are just
as scarlet. (All those dead babies....and more).
War carries with it (always, I think) a powerfully redemptive lesson
for those willing to examine their hearts honestly. It can reveal the darkness
of man's heart like practically nothing else can do.....And even though I believe
this war is just, if we fail to examine our hearts when it's over
and done and humble ourselves before this gloriously wise Referee, we will have
missed the boat miserably.....
