"...But Gomorrah's What We Got"
"When the people saw that
Moses was so long in coming down from the mountain, they
gathered around Aaron and said, 'Come, make us gods who will go
before us...
"Aaron answered them, 'Take off the gold earrings that your
wives, your sons and your daughters are wearing, and bring them
to me...He took what what they handed him and made it into an
idol cast in the shape of a calf.
"...So the next day the people rose early and sacrificed
burnt offerings and presented fellowship offerings. Afterward
they sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in
revelry." (Exodus 32: 1a...2...6)
"This is what the Sovereign LORD says: 'Will you defile
yourselves the way your fathers did and lust after vile images?
When you offer your gifts--the sacrifice of your sons in the
fire--you continue to defile yourselves with all your idols to
this day...." (Ezekiel 20: 30,31a)
"Early the next morning Abraham got up and returned to
the place where he had stood before the LORD. He looked down
toward Sodom and Gomorrah, toward all the land of the plain, and
he saw dense smoke rising from the land, like smoke from a
furnace." (Genesis 19: 27,28)
"For you have spent enough time in the past doing what
pagans choose to do--living in debauchery, lust, drunkeness,
orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry." (1Peter 4:3)
"...But Gomorrah's What We Got"
In the Land of Sport and Spectacle,
Behold! An Idol at the Half!
Quick! Rustle up the children,
To enjoy this Golden Calf.
Gather sons and call your daughters.....
Let's teach our young to melt the gold!
(Can they tell yet that we're swimming
In this Super Toilet Bowl?)
'Round and 'round we're treading water,
We spiral children straight to hell.
In God's Word it's called Gehenna...
But now God's Word just doesn't sell.
This Perversion is our calling.
God's Word we twist then shout.
Charging MasterCardinal Virtues...
To indulgence we're sold out.
See the flesh and see the leather...
The bump and grinding revelry.
We're consumers being eaten,
By a culture rated "P".
We're the boobs exposed at mid-field,
For our children all to see...
Then we flush them down this Super Bowl
For all Eternity.
Rebel Revelers in the darkness
Dancing blindly in this jail....
Bowing low before this Idol,
The Polished Golden Bull of Baal.
In this wilderness we wander,
By mass consumption being bled...
A sacrifice of mass destruction,
A generation left for dead.
Our Sin's floating to the surface
Flushed out for all to see...
It's a shame that no one's blushing.
But stuff happens when you're "free".

Dear God! We cry for mercy...
While we dance to Baal's Command.
Save us, Lord, from this dark desert...
Lead us to The Promised Land.
We've ignored Your Ten Commandments,
And now the heat's turned up to hot.
Milk and Honey's what we long for...
But Gomorrah's what we got.
If there's a Gate for us to enter
Into your Sabbath Rest today,
Father, guide us by your Son Light,
The Truth, the Life, the Way.

"We are not the slaves
of instruments but only of our bad habits which have demanded
the instruments---slaves of our lust for sex, money, power,
pleasure and inanition." -John Senior
"To refuse limits on sexual desire is to make an idol of
lust." -J Budzsieszwski
"The permanent things are lynched without a trial; an altar
or a slaughterhouse in which 'the permanent things' are
sacrificed to the dark gods of Baal, Ashtaroth and Moloch: power
and greed and lust." -Peter Kreeft
"Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all
those Moses led out of Egypt? And with whom was he angry for
forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell
in the desert? An to whom did God swear that they would never
enter his rest if not those who disobeyed? So we see that they
were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.
"Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still
stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have
fallen short of it. For we also have had the gospel preached to
us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value
to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith."
(Hebrews 3: 16-19, 4:1,2) |
