Lord, the fashion today,
Is to doubt what You say....
A word from a 'Prophet'?
.....Absurd!
No, the god we'll allow,
Shan't expect us to bow!
We'll approve one that's seen,
......But not heard.
So, if 'deity's there,
We just know he'll be fair!
He'll let us be Master and King!
But for sure we'll be balkin',
At a god who's been talkin'...
My Word!
...... Who'd believe such a thing!
See, we like our gods tame...
Like a pet we can name,
Who will come when we give him a whistle!
One that's fuzzy and gray,
And who knows when to "STAY!"
Not one who breathes Laws and Epistles.
See, a God with a Plan,
Makes us jumpy...
And, Man!
A God with a Law's even worse!
That's why we decided,
That we all should be guided,
By Our Law of the Land...
....and The Purse.
Holy God?
We can't risk it...
So we'll throw him a biscuit,
While pretending to worship sincerely.
And we're sure he won't fail,
To keep wagging his tail,
Eventhough he sees through us quite clearly.
Now you may think it odd,
That our "Puppy Dog" God,
May appear to be "Deity Lite"...
But, hey! What can we say?
We adore him this way!
Ol' Yeller....
No bark and no bite!
Yep!....Our deity's Fluffy
Like a Poodle named "Buffy";
Quite charming and pleasant to know!
He's a Puppy so Cool,
>From Obedience School...
Crowd-pleasing....
Best Pet in the Show!
As long as we're still in charge,
"Puppy God" can be LARGE;
....But always must do as WE say!
So, Jehovah...Move over!
Roll over there, Rover....

Lord, we're blind to our sin,
And the Doghouse we're in!
Give us Grace to see the house broken.
But tethered we'll be,
If we don't ever see
That You're Master...
And that You have spoken!
But, Lord, until then,
We Lie....Chained to this Sin,
Even knowing our faith to be specious!
We say "Fetch, Buffy! Fetch!"
But it just doesn't mesh,
That's why Truth had to come to unleash us!
"The Lord says:
'These people come near to me
with their mouth and honor me with
their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
Their worship of me
is made up only of rules taught by men.
Therefore once more I will astound
these people with wonder upon wonder;
the wisdom of the wise will perish,
